Mission

The overarching aim of the endeavor was to forge connections and fortify partnerships with educational institutions, while also commemorating the talent of young artists. Moreover, it sought to amplify the prominence of educational initiatives offered by the museum, thereby enhancing its visibility and impact within the community.

Challenge

In the span of 18 days, we orchestrated the creation and installation of an exhibition featuring 67 pieces of art. We curated a dynamic in-gallery presentation comprising 70 slides, tailored for three-panel LCD monitors. We crafted a meticulously designed 72-page color catalog.

Experience

Exhibition: “Who Am I?”

We invited audience members to step into the colorful imaginations of young artists from 7 schools in NYC, as they took center stage! “Who Am I?” was a self-portrait exhibition that invited young artists to explore their identities through painting, collaging, and drawing. Each piece embodied the unique spirit and creativity of its maker, celebrating the joyous journey of self-discovery.

Slide Presentation

The slide presentation added an exciting element to the exhibition. I pulled quotes directly from the artist statements found in the catalog, and the images danced across the 3-panel LCD screen in a new, random order. This whimsical arrangement encouraged visitors to flip through the catalog once more and explore the room again for new insights with each viewing.

Print Catalog

The catalog, a joyful documentation of the art from 7 vibrant NYC schools, celebrated the talent of all 67 artists, alongside their dedicated teachers and schools. It showcased insightful artist statements, revealing the magic behind their chosen mediums, creative journeys, and heartfelt intentions. Keeping in tune with the museum’s iconic style, the catalog embraced the museum’s sans-serif typeface, offering a clean, inviting layout that let the art shine without distractions.

Reception and Outcome

Opening Celebration

The opening celebration was a success. Artists and their families filled the space, alongside approximately 300 visitors. The event strengthened existing school partnerships and fostered new relationships.

New Precedent

The Education Team was thrilled with my contributions, adopting the catalog, presentation, and exhibition layout as templates for future exhibits.
