Client: Hair by Holly

Mission

At the heart of Holly’s craft lies a deep admiration for the spirit of New York City and a commitment to the well-being of its vibrant inhabitants. With artistry and expertise, she crafts hairstyles that reflect the city’s vibrant inhabitants while prioritizing the health of their hair. With artistry and expertise, she empowers her clients to be as confident and unique as the city that never sleeps.

Challenge

Holly aimed to expand her business by growing her clientele and revenue, while nurturing a devoted, long-term customer base. She reached out to me for help in designing a distinguishing brand identity, along with a special gift for her valued clients.

Process

The design of the visual brand needed to embody Holly’s warm personality, her affection for New Yorkers, and key elements from her mission statement: artistry, vibrant inhabitants, individual, and confident.

Typography

The typeface Helvetica Neue embodies clarity and limited distraction, the perfect counterpoint to the hand-drawn, unique, artistic illustration of the hair styling tools. The order of the typeface anchors the visual.

Created in 1957 by Swiss type designer Max Miedinger, and influenced by Berthold’s Akzidenz-Grotesk, Helvetica Neue was designed to compete in the Swiss market, aiming for neutrality and simplicity.

Tote Bag

The Hair by Holly tote was designed as a gift for Holly’s preferred clients. With a minimalist yet chic aesthetic featuring the logo only, it serves as a quiet promotional piece, subtly showcasing the brand without being overtly loud or flashy. By striking the perfect balance between functionality and fashion, the tote bag becomes more than just a gift—it becomes a symbol of appreciation and a subtle ambassador for the business.

Social Media

Bonus: Animation for web and social channels

I injected dynamic energy into the identity’s presence by creating a logo animation tailored for banner ads and social media. The animation transcended the static imagery, and helped make the brand more memorable.
